NGC 3117 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E0 in the constellation Sextant south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 297 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on March 15, 1877 by Édouard Stephan .
