NGC 3136 is an elliptical galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Carina in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 67 million light years from the Milky Way and about 65,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on January 31, 1835 by the astronomer John Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
