NGC 3116 is a compact, elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Little Leo in the northern sky . It is around 284 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 35,000 light years .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3106 , NGC 3126 , IC 2540 .
The object was discovered on March 10, 1886 by Johann Palisa .
