NGC 3146 is a bar-spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Water Snake south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 168 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across.
The object was discovered in 1886 by the astronomer Ormond Stone .
