NGC 3198 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky , which is an estimated 30 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered on January 15, 1788 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
With the help of space telescopes, it was recorded in spectral ranges that are not visible on Earth.
