NGC 3582 is a bright node in a star formation region in the western part of the RCW-57 complex . The area of ​​brightly glowing gas and dark clouds of dust is around 10,000 light years from the sun .

The object was discovered on March 14, 1834 by astronomer John Herschel using his 18.7-inch reflector .
