NGC 3589 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 92 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on April 9, 1793 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
