NGC 3585 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E6 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 55 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is the brightest member of the NGC 3585 group ( LGG 230 ).

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on December 9, 1784 .
