NGC 6738 is an asterism in the constellation Eagle , an apparent concentration of stars in the sky that was previously classified as a star cluster. NGC  6738 has a magnitude of 8.3 mag and an angular extent of 15 × 15 arc minutes .

The object was discovered on July 29, 1829 by John Herschel .
