NGC 6746 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Peacock on southern sky . It is an estimated 182 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is considered a member of the IC 4845 group ( LGG 427 ).
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 6739 , IC 4815 , IC 4824 , IC 4828 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on August 11, 1836 .
