NGC 6753 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation Peacock on southern sky . It is estimated to be 139 million light years from the Milky Way and about 100,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 6758 , IC 4826 , IC 4829 , IC 4832 are located in the same area of the sky .
Together with NGC 6758 , NGC 6780 , IC 4832, IC 4856 , PGC 62885 and PGC 62910 , it forms the NGC 6753 group or LGG 426 .
The supernovae SN 2000cj ( Type-Ia ) and SN 2005cb (Type-Ic) were observed here.
The object was discovered on July 5, 1836 by the astronomer John Herschel using his 18.7 inch mirror telescope and was later recorded in the New General Catalog by the astronomer Johan Dreyer .
