NGC 6739 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . It is an estimated 186 million light years away from the Milky Way and is approximately 135,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is considered a member of the IC 4845 group ( LGG 427 ).
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 6733 , NGC 6746 , IC 4815 .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on August 7, 1834 .
