Industrial history
From 1925 to 1992 there was a glassworks in Waldau . The later VEB Glaswerk Waldau (1989: 500 employees) produced a large part of the packaging glasses for the children's food industry in the GDR until 1990 . Due to the low productivity and the decline in sales cooperation with East German customers, the glassworks was shut down in March 1992. In the mid-1990s, the large core area of the glassworks was demolished. The environmentally relevant substances that were used in the manufacture of glass had to be removed from the contaminated material (a total of 12,000 tons) through a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Some buildings and warehouses could later be used by traders.
