Nancy Drew is an American television series that has been produced by CBS Television Studios for the US broadcaster The CW since 2019 and is based on the heroine of the crime novel series of the same name . It forms the third television series about the character after The Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew Mysteries (1977-1979) and Nancy Drew (1995).
On January 7, 2020, the series was extended for a second season.

The young, bright and curious amateur detective Nancy Drew occasionally investigated her hometown of Horseshoe Bay. After the sudden death of her mother Katherine, Nancy lets the chance to study at university pass by and also gives up her investigative work. Nancy works as a waitress at The Bayside Claw restaurant and has a secret affair with Ned "Nick" Nickerson. When the wealthy Tiffany Hudson is found murdered there, Nancy, Nick, Georgia "George" Fan, Bess Marvin and Ace are suspected of being suspects.
Nancy then begins the investigation and uncovered some secrets. Georgia has a secret affair with Tiffany's husband, Ryan, until she realizes that he will never accept her as the woman by his side. Nick was convicted of murder and Tiffany testified against him at the time. The two met while Nick was in prison and became friends. Bess is not a spoiled girlie, but comes from a poor background and believes that she is descended from the rich Marvins. She starts a relationship with Lisbeth. Nancy's father Carson has a secret relationship with Karen Hart who is investigating the Tiffany murder case. Ace secretly works for Chief EO McGinnis to provide him with information about the group. He was in a relationship with Laura Tandy, Tiffany's sister, who doesn't believe in her sister's natural death. Ryan forged the death certificate, which certifies a natural death, in order to get his wife's inheritance, otherwise he would be broke. Nancy and Nick split up. Nancy begins a relationship with Bess' cousin Owen Marvin, while Nick and Georg grow closer.
In time, Nancy discovered that the Tiffany murder case was related to the Lucy Sable murder 19 years ago. Nancy and Ryan are haunted by the ghost Lucy. It turns out that Ryan and Lucy had a brief relationship in high school, which frowned upon Ryan's parents. Nancy suspects that her parents had something to do with Lucy's death as her father worked for the Hudsons. During their investigation, Nancy and her friends uncover the truth. Tiffany was poisoned by Lucy's brother Josh Dodd. He had received the poison from Det. Karen Hart, Lucy's best friend at the time. Karen and Josh believed Ryan was responsible for Lucy's death and wanted to kill him. However, Ace's dishes were unwittingly reversed, causing Tiffany to eat the poisoned food and die. Josh escapes and later kills Owen before he is arrested.
Since Nancy doesn't believe that Ryan is Lucy's culprit, she and her friends call the water spirit Agleaca, who unearths Lucy's skeleton. This leads to the fact that it is revealed that Lucy had a child shortly before she fell off the cliff. Nancy is the daughter of Lucy and Ryan. Carson and Katherine took Nancy in and considered her their daughter. Nancy finds an old diary from Lucy in which she announces her suicide. The deal with Agleaca, however, has consequences for the friends. All of them foresee their own death: George and Nick drown, Ace is impaled on a meat hook, Bess burns to death, and Nancy dies just like her mother by falling off a cliff.

The television series was originally developed for CBS in 2015 and then migrated to NBC . In 2018, the TV channel The CW acquired the project, which ordered a pilot. The series was developed by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage . Newcomer Kennedy McMann took the lead role of Nancy Drew . Other leading roles were cast with Tunji Kasim , Alex Saxon , Leah Lewis and Scott Wolf . Pamela Sue Martin , who played the lead role of Nancy Drew in The Hardy Boys / Nancy Drew Mysteries , was hired to make a guest appearance.
In May 2019, The CW ordered a first season. Filming began on July 22, 2019 in Vancouver , British Columbia . Since the ratings for the television station were satisfactory, a full season with 22 episodes was ordered in October 2019. On January 7, 2020, the series was extended for a second season.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , production of the first season was discontinued in March 2020. So the first season ends after the 18th episode.
