Nathan Mendelssohn ( Russian: Натан Мендельсон / Natan Mendelson; * 1942 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR , Soviet Union ) is an Uzbek violinist and violin teacher.

Life

Mendelssohn received his first violin lessons from his uncle Naum Power, himself a well-known violinist and student of Abraham Jampolsky . At the age of seven, Mendelssohn came to the well-known "Uspensky School", a music high school for musically gifted children, which is attached to the Conservatory in Tashkent.

Eleven years later he graduated with honors and studied at the Tashkent Conservatory. During and after his studies, he gave solo concerts and performed with various Soviet orchestras in the Soviet Union . He also gave lessons at the music school in Samarkand , later in Tashkent. From 1966 to 1971 Mendelssohn was concertmaster with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Uzbekistan.

From 1969 to 2000 Mendelssohn was initially a lecturer and later professor at his previous school, the Uspensky Music High School, and during these 31 years trained numerous violinists who are now internationally successful (see below). In 1991 he was promoted to the highest possible teaching degree. Finally, in 1992, he was promoted to head of the string department, i.e. the superior of all string instrument teachers, and then appointed professor.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union and after the independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan (1991), Mendelssohn made many concert tours with his students. a. to Greece, Italy, Germany (including several times in Bad Kissingen ), England, France and Turkey. Under his leadership, his students won numerous prizes at international violin competitions in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan , Ukraine , Russia, Lithuania , Turkey, England, Italy, Spain, France and the USA, thus confirming Mendelssohn's high qualification as a teacher.

As a partner and accompanist on the piano, he always had his wife Nadezhda by his side, a pianist and also a lecturer at the Uspensky Music High School in Tashkent.

Mendelssohn gave master classes, gave lectures and was a member of the jury in 1995, 1996 and 2005 at the international violin competition "Premio Rodolfo Lipizer" in Gorizia (Italy) and in 1996 at the Bach Music High School in Berlin. In addition to his intensive teaching activities, Mendelssohn conducted the Uzbek chamber orchestra , with which his students have repeatedly performed as soloists.

In 2000 Mendelssohn moved with his family and his mother to Bad Kissingen, where his brother Eduard, also a violinist and jazz musician, had moved with his family years before. Today he teaches here at the city music school and is also giving private master classes again. His current students (2007) include Veronika Straub (* 1991) from Stralsbach ( Bad Kissingen district ), winner of the regional and state competition (Bavaria) in 2007 with the highest number of points (25 points) and a prize winner (3rd place with 20th place) Points) of the 2007 national competition by “ Jugend musiziert ”, and Daria Azova (* 1998) from Hanau , the little sister of the Uzbek violinist Maria Azova .
