The 1977/78 season was the 56th season of Nationale A , the highest French ice hockey division . The Gap Hockey Club became champions for the second time in the club's history . The Hockey Club de Caen rose to the second division.

mode

The ten teams played 18 games each in the main round. The first place in the main round was champion. The last placed rose directly to the second division, while the penultimate had to compete in the relegation against the runner-up in the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
