The 1970/71 season was the 49th season of the 1 re série , the highest French ice hockey division . The Chamonix Hockey Club became champions for the 26th time in the club's history .

In the main round, the league was divided into two groups (Paris-Nord and Alpes-Provence). The first place in the Paris-Nord group and the first two from Alpes-Provence qualified directly for the final round, while the second-placed finisher in the Paris-Nord group and the third placed in the Alpes-Provence group contested a decider for the last remaining place in the final round. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
