The 1985/86 season was the 64th season of the Nationale 1A , the highest French ice hockey division . The Sporting Hockey Club Saint Gervais became champions for the sixth time in the club's history . The Chamonix Hockey Club and ASG Tours were relegated to the second division.

mode

The twelve teams played 22 games each in the main round. The six best-placed teams qualified for the final round, in which the champions were played. The six last placed had to compete in the relegation round to avoid relegation, with the last two placed in the relegation round relegated directly to the second division, while the third last in the relegation round had to compete against the second division champions. The points from the main round were transferred to the final or relegation round. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
