The Borkenberge nature reserve , which lies in the area of ​​the city of Lüdinghausen , is the largest nature reserve in the Coesfeld district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 1161 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 2005 , extends west of the core town of Lüdinghausen. State road  652 runs to the west, federal road 58 to the south and south-east .

The nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary " Heubach lowlands, Lavesumer Bruch and Borkenberge ".
