The Hülsenhaine nature reserve in the Schellenberger Forest is a nature reserve in the Heisingen district of Essen , north of Lake Baldeney .

The terrain of the protected area, which is crossed by several paths, slopes steeply to the north. In the south it is bordered by residential developments.

Flora and fauna worthy of protection

The mixed beech and oak forest with old trees, the richly developed shrub and herb layer and the high stock of holly are considered to be valuable . There are other noteworthy stocks of red beech, English oak , wood sorrel , woodruff , clove root , jumping herbs , large witchweed as well as ivy and forest lady fern .

The protected area is also a retreat for various animal species.

Protection goals

The aim is to protect the old forest in the area of ​​intensively used forests. In addition, care is taken to preserve the waste wood and to avoid eutrophication .
