The Ruhr bank strip at the Oefte golf course is a nature reserve in the Heidhausen district of Essen on the south bank of the Ruhr between Kettwig and Werden .

description

The protected area comprises a narrow strip of banks that surrounds the Oefte golf course to the west and north towards the Ruhr. Two offshore artificial islands and the shallow water between these islands and the shore are also part of the protected area. The protected landscape area "Riverside of the Ruhr bei Werden" connects up the river . The area of the protected area is given as 7.5 and 10.8 ha.

Biotopes and species worthy of protection

The shoreline is mainly formed by fallow grassland and is densely covered with neophytes (including Hercules shrub ). Likewise, there are hedges and remains of oak - mixed forest with old wood content. The yellow pond rose has settled in the shallow water area.

In 2013 the Biological Station Western Ruhr Area recorded the diurnal breeding bird species . Of the total of 56 bird species encountered, 32 were safely classified as breeding birds, including numerous water birds typical of the Ruhr Valley . With Yellow Warbler , Bullfinch , Yellowhammer and Star , four listed in the warning list for NRW were Red List species detected as breeding birds.

With its diverse structure, its islands and the floating leaf zone, the area is an important refuge for waterbirds and waders , to which it offers feeding, hiding and nesting opportunities.

Protection goals

The colonization of neophytes, the removal of old wood and damage caused by treading are seen as a threat. These should be counteracted by suitable measures (barriers, removal of neophytes).
