The nature reserve Lindholz is a 112  hectare large nature reserve in the northern border area of Havelländisches lynx within the boundaries of the municipality Paulinenaue , one for office Friesack belonging municipality in the Havelland district in the country Brandenburg .

Location and history

The nature reserve is located in the northern part of the district northeast of the community center of Paulinenaue. It is bordered in the west by a drainage ditch, in the south by the Bienenfarmer Weg road , in the east by a farm road and in the north by the Havelländisches Große Hauptkanal and can be entered from a nature trail. The Berlin – Hamburg railway crosses the area from the northwest to the southeast.

The area emerged as part of the Berlin glacial valley during the Vistula high glacial around 18,000 years ago. It shows the bogs and valley sands typical of the region , some of which are overlaid by dunes. One of these dune ranges extends from northwest to southeast at a height of up to five meters above the surrounding area.

Flora and fauna

Oaks , hornbeams , winter linden and hazel grow in the majority of the nature reserve . The species-rich herb layer includes the mean lark spur , the heather carnation , the spiky devil's claw , the white swallowweed and - the only occurrence in Brandenburg - the large two-leaf . Just as unique in the region is the greenish forest hyacinth that thrives in the field . This approximately 14.5 hectare area is looked after by NABU .

In the area seven total species of bats detected: the Brandt's bat , the Natterer's bat , the Daubenton's bat , the Serotine , the soprano pipistrelle , the Nathusius' pipistrelle and the brown long-eared . In addition, the middle and black woodpecker , the red kite and the miniature flycatcher feel at home there.

Protection goal

The Havelland district specifies the protection objective: "Preservation of natural forest communities of the hornbeam - pedunculate oak forest" and "Shielding valuable forest and forest fringing communities against nitrogen input through a meadow expansion area as a protection zone"
