Located in the municipality of Neapoli-Sykies and in the regional district of Thessaloniki

Neapoli ( Greek Νεάπολη , Katharevousa Neapolis ( f. Sg. )) Is a district of Thessaloniki , but politically belongs to the independent municipality Neapoli-Sykies in the Central Macedonia region .

Neapoli was created as an independent rural municipality (kinotita) in 1934 and elevated to a municipal municipality (dimos) in 1946 . In 2010 this municipality was merged with Sykies , Agios Pavlos and Pefka to form Neapoli-Sykies . The four former parishes form the parish of the new parish.

In contrast to many other municipalities and localities in the Thessaloniki metropolitan area, the municipality recorded no significant increase in population between 1981 and 2001. In 1981 there were 31,464 people in Neapoli, 30,568 in 1991 and 31,830 in 2001 (data determined by population censuses). Despite the relatively constant population development, Neapoli is one of the most densely populated municipalities and cities in Greece. The city is accordingly characterized by dense development. There are no green spaces worth mentioning in Neapoli.

To the west of Neapoli is the Thessaloniki train station, south of the port.
