Sykies ( Greek Συκιές [ siˈkʲɛs ] ( f. Pl. ), Katharevousa Sykee Συκέαι) is a district of Thessaloniki , but politically belongs to the independent municipality Neapoli-Sykies in the region of Central Macedonia , as its municipality seat it functions.
Sykies was created as an independent rural community (kinotita) in 1934 and raised to the status of an urban community (dimos) in 1954 . In 2010 this community was merged with Neapoli , Agios Pavlos and Pefka to Neapoli-Sykies . The four former parishes form the parish of the new parish.
In the 2001 census, the population was 41,726, in 2011 only 37,753 actual inhabitants were determined in Sykies. Based on an area of 7,982 km², the city has a high population density of 4730 inhabitants per square kilometer. The inner ring of Thessaloniki passes the city from northeast to southeast.
