Chalastra ( Greek Χαλάστρα ( f. Sg. )) Is a small town on the western edge of the metropolitan area of Thessaloniki in the Greek region of Central Macedonia . Until 2010 it was a municipality in the prefecture of Thessaloniki in the administrative region of Central Macedonia. In 2010 Chalastra merged with the neighboring parishes of Axios  and Echedoros in the newly created parish Delta , in which it has since formed a parish. This consists of the villages Chalastra with 7262 and Anatoliko with around 2590 inhabitants.

Chalastra is located in the north of the Thermaic Gulf in the immediate vicinity of the mouth of the Axios river into the Aegean Sea . The Axios runs west of Chalastra coming from the north to the south.

Under the name Kouloukia (gr. Κουλουκιά) the place was established in 1918 as a rural community (kinotita) . In 1926 the name was changed to Chalastra after a town located to the right of the Axios estuary in antiquity. In 1955 it was renamed Pyrgos (Greek grργος, tower), which was withdrawn in 1980 when the city gained the status of a township (dimos) . In 1997 the neighboring Anatoliko was incorporated. Today's municipality consists of the villages of Chalastra and Anatoliko.

The municipality of Chalastra lies with its two places in the central Macedonian coastal plain, which is determined by the mouths of the rivers Axios, Loudias, Gallikos and Aliakmonas. Accordingly, the landscape is flat and has no elevations. Because of the abundant supply of fresh water, agriculture was and is the determining economic factor in the area.

Motorway 1 runs parallel to the Axios River from north to south from Evzoni via Katerini to Athens (also European route 75 ). In the south of Chalastra, highway 2 ( European route 90 ) runs from southwest to northeast from Veria via Thessaloniki to Kavala . The Axios motorway triangle of Motorways 1 and 2 is near Chalastra.
