Negreşti is a small town in Vaslui County in Romania .
Geographical location
Negreşti is located in the Central Moldau Plateau ( Podişul Central Moldovenesc ) on the Bârlad River . The district capital Vaslui is located about 30 km southeast.
history
Negreşti was first mentioned in a document in 1590. In 1845 the holding of markets was mentioned in the rural town. As a result, Negreşti developed into a local center of trade and handicrafts. In 1968 the place was declared a city. The most important branches of industry are agriculture, wood and food processing as well as the textile and construction industries.
population
In 1930 there were almost 5,000 people living in the area of today's city, around 500 of whom were Jews and Roma , the rest of them Romanians . At the 2002 census there were 9,854 people in Negreşti, including 9,789 Romanians and 52 Roma.
traffic
Negreşti lies on the railway line from Buhăieşti to Roman . Currently (2009), however, only two local trains run in both directions each day. There are bus connections to Vaslui and Iași . National road 15D runs through the city from Piatra Neamț to Vaslui.
