Geographical location

Neudorf is located in the southern municipality of Neustadt / Vogtl. The Geigenbach, which forms the eastern boundary, is dammed northwest of Neudorf in the Werda dam (Geigenbachtalsperre). The Geigenbach drains into the shoot . The scattered settlement Neudorf includes the settlements “Ascherwinkel” in the west and “Breitenstein” in the south. Neudorf is located in the center of the Vogtlandkreis and in the Saxon part of the historic Vogtland . Geographically, the place is mostly in the east of the Vogtland natural area . Only the unpopulated southeast is counted as part of the Western Ore Mountains natural area .

history

The streudorf Neudorf was mentioned in 1551 as "zum Neuendörffel". The manorial rule over the place was around 1586 with the manor Göltzsch and around 1791 with the manor Dorfstadt . Until 1856, Neudorf belonged to the Electoral Saxon or later Royal Saxon Office of Plauen . In 1856 Neudorf was affiliated to the Falkenstein court office and in 1875 to the Auerbach administration . Between 1903 and 1909, the Werda dam (Geigenbachtalsperre) was built northwest of the town .

On July 1, 1950, Neudorf was moved to Neustadt / Vogtl. incorporated. Through the second district reform in the GDR , Neudorf came as part of the Neustadt / Vogtl community. in 1952 to the district of Auerbach in the Chemnitz district (renamed the Karl-Marx-Stadt district in 1953 ), which was continued in 1990 as the Saxon district of Auerbach and was merged into the Vogtland district in 1996.
