Nickel (II) nitrate is a chemical compound of the metal nickel from the group of nitrates . It usually occurs in the form of its hexahydrate Ni (NO 3 ) 2 · 6 H 2 O, which is why all information in the table relates to this.
properties
Nickel (II) nitrate is a strong oxidizing agent and comes in various forms of hydrate. The most common is hexahydrate (Ni (NO 3 ) 2 · 6 H 2 O). When the nickel (II) nitrate hexahydrate is slowly heated, the tetrahydrate (Ni (NO 3 ) 2 · 4 H 2 O) is formed from 45 ° C and the dihydrate (Ni (NO 3 ) 2 · 2 H 2 ) from 80 ° C O), at 120 to 145 ° C basic nickel nitrate. On cooling, the nonahydrate can form (Ni (NO 3 ) 2 · 9 H 2 O). Above 200 ° C, nickel nitrate begins to decompose into nickel (II) oxide . With rapid heating between 310 and 340 ° C it decomposes to nickel (II) oxide, nitrogen oxides and oxygen .
By reacting dissolved nickel nitrate hexahydrate with ammonia water (conc.), Hexaammine nickel (II) nitrate, a complex salt, can be obtained at pH> 8 . Similarly, nickel nitrate hexahydrate and hydrazine hydrate Nickelhydrazinnitrat be won.
The reaction of nickel nitrate solution with caustic soda or sodium hydroxide results in light- to apple-green nickel (II) hydroxide .
use
Nickel (II) nitrate is used in the ceramics industry (as a brown pigment), in dyeing as a pickling agent , for electrolytic nickel plating, for obtaining nickel (II) oxide and for the production of pure catalyst nickel .
safety instructions
Nickel (II) nitrate has an oxidizing effect and is classified as carcinogenic.
