Nicol Gastaldi (born February 16, 1990 in Piove di Sacco , Veneto , Italy ) is an Argentine ski racer . It mainly starts in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom . Her younger brother Sebastiano Gastaldi is also a ski racer.

biography

At the age of 15, Nicol Gastaldi competed in her first FIS races in Argentina and also made her debut in the South American Cup (SAC). In February 2008 she went to Formigal for the first time at a Junior World Championship , but could not record a result. Two years later, she finished 80th in the giant slalom in Les Houches . In 2009 she took part in a world championship for the first time in Val-d'Isère , but was eliminated in both technical races. At her first Olympic Games in Vancouver she reached 48th place in giant slalom, but did not finish in slalom. In August 2011, she achieved her first SAC victory in the giant slalom in San Martín de los Andes . At her second world championship in Schladming , she only started in slalom, but dropped out again.

In September 2013 she celebrated her greatest international success when she won the overall ranking of the South American Cup for the first time and thus ended the years of dominance of the sisters María Belén and Macarena Simari Birkner . In addition, she won the slalom classification with a race win at Cerro Catedral . She finished her third world championship in Vail with 57th place in the giant slalom. Two years later she was able to improve to rank 51 in St. Moritz , but retired for the fourth time in her fourth appearance in a World Cup slalom. In August 2017 she was crowned Argentine champion for the first time in the giant slalom at Cerro Catedral.

On December 19, 2017, she made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Courchevel . After eight years she took part in the Winter Olympics again and rose to 42nd place in the giant slalom. In the slalom, she was eliminated in the first round.
