The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation (formerly: Nicolaidis Foundation) was founded in 1998 and has been a legal foundation under civil law based in Munich since 2014, offering help for young widowed people and their children across Germany. Martina Münch-Nicolaidis is the founder and CEO. The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation is a non-profit and benevolent organization authorized to issue donation receipts and is a member of the Federal Association of German Foundations .

organization

The Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation was founded in 1998 because of my own dismay. It is the nationwide contact point for grieving children, adolescents and adults up to the age of 49.

The foundation supports adults whose life partner has died, as well as children and young people who have lost a father, mother or both parents. This means that the foundation can look after the entire family and offers various types of help.

With its offers of help, the foundation offers a wide range of opportunities to deal with one's own grief and loss. Those affected are given individual, long-term, resource-oriented advice and support.

Through networking and cooperation with other specialist agencies, the foundation is a partner at the side of young mourners and advocates their needs on a social level. In addition, the foundation shares its many years of experience in grief counseling in the context of training courses and lectures.

history

Martina Münch-Nicolaidis is CEO of the Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation in Munich and winner of the Startsocial Federal Prize in 2002. She initially worked for several years in her parents' company and in various marketing functions in the IT industry. After the death of her husband in 1998 she founded an initiative for half and full orphans and their families, from which the Nicolaidis YoungWings Foundation emerged in 2014.

Focus

Help offers for children and young people

  • In the SABU Club , children between the ages of 3 and 9 can get to know each other in a protected educational setting and exchange ideas while playing, romping or doing handicrafts.
  • Since 2014, the foundation has been offering two leisure groups for half and full orphans aged 9 to 12 and 12 to 17 years. With the help of creative and experiential methods, there is the opportunity to deal with the topics of dying, death and mourning.
  • The YoungWings online advice center is aimed at children and young people between the ages of 12 and 21 who are grieving for a loved one. It offers the opportunity to find support anonymously and free of charge around the clock. The Bavarian State Minister Emilia Müller took over the patronage for this in 2014 . National player Thomas Müller has been an ambassador for the YoungWings online advice center since 2011 .
  • The grief self-help group YoungChange offers young adults up to 27 years of age the opportunity to talk about their loss and related issues in a secure setting every two weeks. YoungChange is aimed at people who have lost one or both parents.
  • Half and full orphans between 14 and 27 years of age who are looking for support in finding a career can contact the STARTSmart career advice center. STARTSmart offers individual support with career orientation, the application process and the search for a suitable subject, internship or training position. Business coaches accompany and advise the young people concerned with their career or secondary school decision.
  • The Sebastian Education Scholarship has also been awarded since 2017 . This is aimed at half and full orphans between the ages of 17 and 27 with German citizenship within the whole of Germany. The funding project, unique in its focus, is intended to provide young adults with financial and non-material support to help them realize their own professional prospects. The educational scholarship focuses less on the previous academic achievements than on the individual situation of each individual as well as their school and professional development opportunities. Measures are encouraged that can contribute to professional and personal development. The specific amount of the scholarship is based on the financial situation and the individual plans of the individual applicants.
  • In order to give as many young people as possible access to the foundation's offers, the foundation regularly organizes supraregional creative projects. With YoungCreatives-Film , the foundation is breaking new ground in grief counseling. Half and full orphans between the ages of 12 and 27 create their very own one-minute short film together with experts from the film and media industry. All films will then be presented to a prominent jury. The aim of the project is to support young half and full orphans as well as the nationwide exchange of contacts between those affected. In addition, the project makes it possible to be introduced to new media in a playful way with creative programs without pressure to perform. The highlight of every short film project is the presentation of the YoungCreatives Film Awards. In the presence of a prominent jury (most recently Max Wiedemann , Senta Berger , Götz Otto , Simon Verhoeven , Lucas Reiber and Kurt Schalk) the short films will be presented to the public for the first time and a jury and audience award will be given to the young filmmakers.

Help for adults

  • In addition to personal grief counseling, the foundation offers grief counseling by telephone for young mourners outside of Munich . As part of regular telephone appointments with one of the grief counselors, mourners are accompanied in their personal mourning process.
  • Participation in a mourning group can provide support after the death of a loved one and support mourners in being able to cope with the incomprehensible a little better.
