Nicole Petignat
Nicole Petignat (born October 27, 1966 in La Chaux-de-Fonds ) is a former Swiss football referee . She ended her active career on December 1, 2008, the climax of which was leading the final of the 1999 Women's World Cup .
Life
Nicole Petignat grew up in Alle in the canton of Jura and, as a 17-year-old high school student, secretly attended a referee course with her twin sister Dominique. Two years later, she entered the Conservatory of Lausanne and then worked as a music teacher. In addition, she was active in ice hockey , handball , volleyball and football . She was the manager of the Union of National League referees and played in the Women's National League A from 1983 to 1985.
In 1991 she married the Moroccan footballer Mohammed Mouidi ( FC Wil ) and lived with him first in Sigigen and later in Gossau . From summer 2000 to mid-May 2007 she was in a relationship with the former referee Urs Meier and lived with him and his two children in Würenlos and later in Watt ZH .
She is one of the few women in men's football who also led games in the highest professional leagues , including the Swiss Super League and the Austrian Bundesliga . On August 14, 2003, she was the first woman to play a men's UEFA Cup match (first leg for qualifying for the UEFA Cup between AIK Solna and Fylkir Reykjavík ). She was also the referee of the women's World Cup final between the USA and China at the 1999 Women's World Cup and the 2001 European Women's Football Championship final between Germany and Sweden .
On December 1, 2008, Petignat resigned as an arbitrator with immediate effect. Since then, the physiotherapist has been working as a wheelchair basketball trainer at CFR Jura in Delémont with two of her own practices .
