Low German theater

The Niederdeutsche Theater was included in the national register of intangible cultural heritage by the German Commission for UNESCO in 2014 as a result of the transnational application of the three Low German theater groups Lower Saxony and Bremen (lead), Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Most of the Low German theaters are organized as theater associations and have joined forces in the Low German Theater Association . Some of these amateur theaters are connected to larger houses, such as the August Hinrichs stage at the Oldenburg State Theater or the Low German Stage Münster at the Münster Theater . The Low German theaters mostly perform so-called folk theater .
