Niederthalhausen is a district of the municipality Ludwigsau in northeast Hesse in the district of Hersfeld-Rotenburg in the eastern part of the Knüll .

Geographical location

The place is in the upper Rohrbach valley . State road 3254 runs on the northern edge of the village . District road 65 leads to the neighboring town of Oberthalhausen .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1335. The court "in der Rohrbach " (later Ludwigseck court ) consisted of the villages of Beenhausen, Gerterode, Heierode, Rohrbach, Ober- and Niederthalhausen and Tann in 1538. In some cases, Ersrode, Trunsbach and the Schöpbach desert are also included. The court was located in the village of Tann. From 1579 the court belonged to the Rotenburg office , which was part of the Rotenburger Quart from 1627 to 1835 .

On August 1, 1972, Niederthalhausen was incorporated into the municipality of Ludwigsau as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

The village of Oberthalhausen also belongs to the evangelical parish of Niederthalhausen. The parish in turn belongs to the Beenhausen parish . In 1802 the village church was rebuilt. The old church was built in the middle of the 13th century.

Regular events

On the Sunday after Ash Wednesday , a wheel wrapped in straw is set on fire and rolled down a slope. This tradition of the Helrod has been around for a long time.
