Friedlos is the largest part of the municipality of Ludwigsau in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in East Hesse and the seat of the municipal administration .

geography

Friedlos lies in the Fulda-Werra-Bergland on the Fulda . The Knüllgebirge borders in the west ; beyond the Fulda is the Seulingswald .

history

Friedlos was first mentioned in 1352. The occasion was a dispute over a 'fish pasture' and 'fishery' in Friedlos. In the document it is expressly mentioned that the fishing rights were a fief received from the Hersfeld abbot . In the following years, besides the Hersfeld feudal rights, feudal rights from those of Altenburg, those of Baumbach , those of Felsberg and those of Lilienberg can be proven. Friedlos was subordinate to the Dechneigericht of the Hersfeld Abbey .

During the Thirty Years' War Friedlos suffered from billeting of Tilly's army , who occupied the nearby Hersfeld monastery. With the dissolution of the Hersfeld monastery in 1606, Friedlos was placed under the Kassel Landgrave . Here the jurisdiction was also transferred from the Hersfelder Stift to the Kassel Landgrave . The peacemaker were free and no longer required to pay a tithe , but were subject to numerous other services and taxes.

The place was one (1630) 41 at this time House SAT , or about 160 inhabitants. In 1750, according to the camp, item and tax book of the landgraviate survey, the population had risen to 226 people.

During the Seven Years' War (1756–1763), the place was affected by billeting when the French army under Marshal Broglie moved into quarters in neighboring Hersfeld.

When an army was recruited by the landgrave to support the English in the American War of Independence , in 1776 peacemakers were also drafted. Some returned home in 1783.

Due to poor living conditions, some peaceable families emigrated to the United States in the mid-19th century.

There were 700 inhabitants in 1925.

On December 31, 1971, Friedlos was incorporated into the new municipality of Ludwigsau as part of the regional reform in Hesse with the place Reilos, which was added on April 1, 1969 .
