Mecklar is one of the 13 districts of the large community of Ludwigsau . It is located in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in Hesse .

history

Mecklar was first mentioned in a document in 1252. Mecklar has always been in close connection with the Fulda River , which divides the village into an old and a new location. There used to be a ford about the same height as the stone Fulda bridge, which was built in 1899 . A ship traffic from Bremen on Weser and Fulda to Hersfeld via Mecklar is mentioned in a document.

On December 31, 1971, Mecklar was incorporated into the new municipality of Ludwigsau.
