Nieheim was a village settlement in today's district of Istha , a district of Wolfhagen in northern Hesse Kassel district .

Geographical location

The place was located about 1.5 km southwest of Istha, 1.5 km east of Bründersen , 2 km northeast of Altenstädt and 2.5 km northwest of Balhorn , at an altitude of 341  m , in the field of Istha, in the area of what is today Wind farms . The Bensen desert lies about 500 m to the east . A field name southwest of Istha reminds of the disappeared village.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1149 as "villa Niuheim" in the Salbuch of Hasungen Monastery, when the monastery and St. Petri-Stift zu Fritzlar fought over the local Red Tenth and called Archbishop Heinrich von Mainz as arbitrator. In 1151 the archbishop confirmed the acquisition of real estate in Nieheim and "Langelach" , which the monastery of Adelung von Gasterfeld had acquired in exchange for previous properties in Gasterfeld and Langeln ; the place was referred to as "praedium" (estate) and called "Nuihem".

On June 4, 1253, the village was mentioned again: the dean and the chapter of the Fritzlarer St. Petri-Stift stated that the tithe in the villages of Istha, Nieheim ("Nueim"), Bensen, Todenhausen , Gran and Odelsen that half of the red interest on land gained in these villages through clearing is left to Hasungen Monastery forever.

By 1515 at the latest, the place was desolate; its inhabitants had probably moved to nearby Istha, to whose boundary the field mark of the place has belonged ever since.
