Count Nikolai Trofimowitsch von Baranoff ( Russian : Николай Трофимович Баранов, born October 19, 1808 in Reval , † May 26, 1883 in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian infantry general in the Imperial Russian Army . He was raised to the Russian hereditary nobility in 1846 . He and his descendants bear the title of Russian Count .

Life

Nikolai began his military career at the military school as a guard - ensign . From 1827 he served in the Izmajlov Guard Regiment, which was part of the Old Guard and whose Commander-in-Chief was Tsar Nicholas I (1796–1855). With this regiment took part in the siege of Varna and in 1831 in the assault on Warsaw . He was seriously wounded in Warsaw and was given a long convalescent leave. In 1835 he became the adjutant of the Grand Duke Michael Pavlovich appointed (1798 to 1849) and from 1849 as adjutant called his imperial highness. Origin and family

Nikolai came from the Russian-Swedish nobility of the von Baranoff family , who had lived in Estonia and Livonia since the mid- 16th century . His father was the Russian chamberlain and real councilor Trofim Johann Ludwig von Baranoff (1779–1828), who was married to Juliane Sophie von Adlerberg (1789–1874). His brothers were the Russian generals Johann Eduard Graf von Baranoff (1811–1884) and Paul Graf von Baranoff (1814–1864). Nikolai married Elisabeth Nikolaijewna Poltawzew (1817–1866; died in Nice ), the marriage remained childless. One of his cousins ​​of the same name was the painter Nikolai von Baranoff (1808–1863).
