Nikolaj Michajlow (also written Nikolay Mihaylov , Bulgarian Николай Михайлов ; born June 28, 1988 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian football player and son of Borislav Michajlow , the former national goalkeeper of Bulgaria.
Career
society
Michajlow started in 1998 in the youth department at the Bulgarian club Levski Sofia . In 2004 he moved into the professional squad for the first time. Between 2004 and 2007 he made 44 games for the professional Levski Sofias team. After the end of the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons, he fought for the Bulgarian championship with his team. In 2007 the double was made perfect with the cup win . In 2005 Michajlow was able to win the trophy with his team. In June 2007 he was about to sign with Fiorentina , but decided to accept an offer from Liverpool FC. On July 14, 2007, Michajlow signed with Liverpool FC until 2010 . In his first season with Liverpool, he was briefly third goalkeeper Liverpool, behind Pepe Reina and Charles Itandje . Soon afterwards, Liverpool FC loaned him to Twente FC in the summer of 2007 to give him experience there. The young player's loan contract was valid until 2010. At Twente he was the second goalkeeper behind Sander Boschker .
After Michajlow did not appear for Twente in 2007/08, he made his official debut for the Dutch on August 27, 2008 in the Champions League qualifier against Arsenal . On August 30, 2008, he played his first league game for Twente, against Roda JC . After the 2008/09 season he was with his loan team behind AZ Alkmaar Dutch runner-up. In the cup, the team failed in the final at SC Heerenveen on penalties. Michajlow was not used here.
On February 5, 2010 Michajlow moved permanently to FC Twente. The Bulgarian signed a contract until June 2013. In the 2010/11 season , under coach Michel Preud'homme, he replaced goalkeeper Boschker as number one and was in goal in 31 league games and in ten of the twelve Champions and Europa League encounters. In August 2013 he moved to Serie A for Hellas Verona.
In the summer of 2014 he moved to the Turkish Süper Lig to Mersin İdman Yurdu . In December 2015 he left this club prematurely, but returned for the 2016/17 season.
National team
Michajlow has been the goalkeeper of the Bulgarian U-21 national team since 2005 . So far he has played 14 games for the U-21 team and scored one goal. He made his debut for the Bulgarian national team in 2006 against Scotland, the game was lost 1: 5. Then he stood two games in the 2010 World Cup qualifying between the posts. At the European Championship qualification 2012 he is currently number one in goal and has played all games so far.
