The Nitzelbach is an approximately 10.6 km long, north-westerly and orographically left-hand tributary of the Eder in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse .

Course and catchment area

The Nitzelbach rises on the eastern roof of the Rothaargebirge in the "Elbrighäuser Wald" belonging to the Hinterland Ederbergland . Its source is around 500 m east of the Bromskirchen district of Neuludwigsdorf on an agricultural high plateau at around 515  m above sea level. NN .

Initially, the stream flows in the wooded valley in the " Nitzelbachtal nature reserve " mainly in a south-east direction and changes from the Bromskirchener to the Allendorf municipality. For example, when passing the nature reserve “Battenfelder Driescher” to the west above the stream, it runs a short distance through the “Hatzfelder Bergland”, which also belongs to the “Hinterland Ederbergland”. Then it briefly changes to the "Breite Struth" belonging to the Waldstruth , in order to then leave the "Nitzelbachtal" nature reserve and finally flow into the " Frankenberger Grund ". After crossing under the Bad Berleburg – Allendorf railway line , it runs through the Allendorf district of Battenfeld .

Finally flows after flowing through the Battenfeld Nitzelbach to about 295  m above sea level. NN in the Fulda tributary Eder ; Federal road 253 runs southeast of its mouth, and thus beyond the Eder .

The catchment area of the Nitzelbach is 8.397 km².
