history

NordSüd Verlag was founded in 1961 by the married couple Dimitri and Brigitte Sidjanski in Gossau , Zurich . In 1979 the management of the publishing house passed to their son Davy Sidjanski . As a result, the publishing house began to expand internationally from the 1980s and especially from the 1990s in the wake of the international success of the bestseller “The Rainbow Fish” with various international locations. At the same time, the publisher's annual turnover rose to 60 million Swiss francs. However, the aggressive expansion proved too ambitious. The consequence of this was a liquidity bottleneck, which in spring 2003 led to the publisher's insolvency.

In mid-2004, NordSüd Verlag was taken over by a group of investors led by the publisher Urs Gysling, the headquarters relocated to Zurich and the publisher was subsequently restructured and redimensioned. With an annual turnover of around ten million Swiss francs, NordSüd Verlag is still the largest children's book publisher in Switzerland. In 2011 Herwig Bitsche took over the management of the publishing house.
