The Switzerland announced for the 6th Nordic World Ski Championships , which from 5 to 10 February 1929 in Zakopane in Poland took place, six people, including five men and a woman for the first time.

At the competitions that are officially part of the Nordic World Ski Championships, the five representatives of the Swiss Ski Association fell slightly short of expectations. They achieved consistently good places among the top 20, but only one top 10 place for Walter Bussmann in the 18 km cross-country skiing . With this and 11th place in the endurance run over 50 km, which Bussmann competed as the only Swiss, he also ensured the outstanding performance of a Swiss representative in these competitions.

The Swiss participants fared better in the men's alpine downhill race, which was held for the first time at the world championships , in which they were able to occupy ranks 3 to 5. This international downhill race, like the first cross-country skiing competition for women, in which Switzerland was represented by Josy de Latour, was not included in the official program of the FIS .
