North Lohne is a town in the unified community Wietmarschen in Lower Saxony Grafschaft Bentheim . Until it was reclassified to Wietmarschen, Nordlohne was part of the former municipality of Schepsdorf-Lohne in what was then the district of Lingen .

geography

Geographical location

Nordlohne is located in the far east of the Grafschaft Bentheim district and borders directly on the Emsland district. The Ems flows northeast 1.4 km away, the A 31 runs 4 km west. The Ems is 1269 m, the market square Lingen 4115 m, Rheitlage 1938 m, St. Alexander Schepsdorf 3223 m, St. Antonius Lohne 3564 m and the motorway service station Ems-Vechte Ost 3895 m as the crow flies from the village community center.

Neighboring places

Nordlohne borders on the urban area of Lingen (Ems) : In the north and east are the Lingen districts of Wachendorf , Rheitlage and Schepsdorf , in the south is the village of Lohne and in the west is Schwartenpohl (both municipality of Wietmarschen).

history

Nordlohne can look back on at least 860 years of history. 1152 North Lohne, together with Südlohne, Central wages and wages on the Oerde first time as Lohner peasantry documented in the monastic foundation to Wietmarschen. Probably between 1291 and 1313 Schepsdorf, Lohne, Nordlohne, Rheitlage and Herzford were spun off from the parish of Emsbüren and formed the parish of Schepsdorf. Nordlohne has belonged to the parish of Schepsdorf since that time, while in 1915 a separate parish was founded in Lohne.

Until 1802, Nordlohne belonged to the Principality of Münster , which in this area formed a narrow strip between the counties of Bentheim in the west and Lingen in the east. In 1802 the bishopric of Münster was occupied by Prussian troops and fell to France in the course of the Napoleonic wars. After the Kingdom of Hanover was established in the course of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, Nordlohne was added to this and at the same time placed under the Lingen office. In 1866 the Kingdom of Hanover was annexed by Prussia and the kingdom became a Prussian province, which was incorporated into the German Empire in 1871. In 1885 the district of Lingen was formed from the offices of Lingen and Freren and the city of Lingen.

Nordlohne was occupied by the British victorious power after the Second World War and in 1946 it became part of Lower Saxony and the Federal Republic of Germany founded in 1949. As part of the community reform, the community of Schepsdorf-Lohne was dissolved on March 1, 1974. There was strong resistance to this dissolution in the entire parish and in the parish council, which unanimously opposed it. Ultimately, however, that could not be prevented. Northern wages, wages and wage breakage came to Wietmarschen, which previously belonged to the Grafschaft Bentheim district. With the integration, the Wietmarschen community moved to the Lingen district . With the establishment of the district of Emsland on August 1, 1977, the community came back to the district of Grafschaft Bentheim.

To this day, the Nordlohner are "aligned" to Lingen due to their proximity. For example, the telephone connections in Nordlohne are part of the Lingen local network.

Religions

The majority of residents in Nordlohne belong to the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholics have always been part of the parish of St. Alexander zu Schepsdorf, so they are not part of the church. Evangelical Lutheran citizens of Nordlohn are affiliated with the Kreuzkirche parish in Lingen, which also operates a parish center in Lohne.

Culture and sights

Buildings

Two places or buildings are to be named as sights in Nordlohne: the bell tower and the area around the village community center .

The bell tower, built in 1983, is located on Nordstrasse - at the first location of the former Catholic elementary school . The bell comes from the former school and rings daily for the angelus . It was donated in 1852 by Johann Herrmann Lüttel, who later emigrated to America. In addition to the bell tower, there is also a memorial stone for the Schützenverein Nordlohne 1911 e. V. and a half-timbered bus stop.

The area around the village community center is also on Nordstraße . It was inaugurated in 1933 as the ballroom for the Bruns inn. Over the years this hall has been used in a variety of ways. In the course of the decades this building fell into disrepair and was therefore hardly usable. The municipality of Wietmarschen acquired it with the intention of creating a meeting point for the village community for the citizens of Nordlohn and developing a new village center. The building was ceremoniously inaugurated in 1989 with considerable in-house work and funding.

Another building was added as part of the village renewal program of the Grafschaft Bentheim district. A multi-purpose building, which was inaugurated in 2000, was built on the basis of a former sheep pen. The building consists of an oak framework and is in the style of old Low German courts. In the course of time, a sports field, a barbecue hut and a half-timbered barn were added. The new center of the village is surrounded by old oak and beech trees .

Leisure and Tourism

Lohner Sand local recreation area

Between Nordlohne and Schepsdorf there is an extensive forest and heather area, which is criss-crossed by sand dunes. This area with a size of approx. 300 hectares was used by the Bundeswehr as a training area from 1956 to 2007. The other military users were the Reichswehr / Wehrmacht from 1935 to 1945 and the British Army from 1945 to 1956.

After the military units had withdrawn, the Wietmarschen community presented a plan for the subsequent use of the training area. In the meantime, a local recreation area has been created according to this plan. Hiking and cycling trails run through the former practice area. A nature trail was created to bring the local flora and fauna closer to the visitors. This provides comprehensive information on the facets of the local flora and fauna and in particular goes into the local heather and sandy sand areas that were characteristic of this area in the past. For park maintenance are bentheimer landschaf used to keep as low as possible to the growth on bird cherry and pine trees; Beekeepers bring their colonies to the heath.
