North Fork of Long Island AVA (recognized since October 10, 1986) is a wine-growing region in the US state of New York . The area is located in the eastern part of Suffolk County and includes the northern peninsula on the northeast tip of Long Island . The vineyards of the southern peninsula are grouped together in The Hamptons, Long Island AVA . The North Fork of Long Island is home to more than 30 wineries that farm more than 1,200 acres of vineyards.

The microclimate of the vineyards is positively influenced by the water masses of the Atlantic Ocean of Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay . The growing season for the vines is about a month longer in this part of the state than in other regions. This enables the cultivation of the Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape varieties known from Bordeaux .
