Sergei Tchoban

Sergei Tchoban (originally Russian Сергей Энверович Чобан / Sergei Enwerowitsch Tschoban , scientific transliteration Sergej Ėnverovič Čoban ; born October 9, 1962 in Leningrad ) is a German architect of Russian descent. He is a member of the Association of German Architects (BDA) , the Russian Association of Architects and the Russian Association of Artists, a member of the Moscow Department of the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) and an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts .

Life

Sergei Tchoban was born in Leningrad in a family of scientists. His father, Enwer Abdurachmanowitsch Tschoban, was a physicist and professor at the Polytechnic University, his mother, Irina Solomonovna Tschoban, worked there as an engineer for turbines. His grandfather, Solomon Abramowitsch Kantor, was also a professor at the Polytechnic University. From 1973 to 1980 Tchoban attended the secondary art school of the Academy of Arts, from 1980 to 1986 he studied at the architecture faculty of the Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (class of Sergei Speranski and Valerian Wolonsewitsch). After completing his studies, he worked in the architecture workshop of Weniamin Fabritskij until he started working as a freelance architect in Leningrad in 1989. In 1991 Tchoban moved to Germany. In 1992 he was employed in the Hamburg office of Nietz Prasch Sigl, where he became a partner in 1995 and took over his Berlin branch. Based on Tchoban's designs, the Tchoban Voss Architects in Berlin realized the Cubix cinema, the CityQuartier DomAquarée, the Jewish cultural center and synagogue Chabad Lubawitsch on Münsterschen Straße, the nhow music and lifestyle hotel, the LP 12 district - Mall of Berlin and the Museum of Architectural Drawing (design - SPEECH, together with Sergei Kuznetsov ).

Tchoban has been a partner in the Moscow office of SPEECH since 2006. Together with Sergei Kuznetsov, he has been the editor of the architecture magazine speech: since 2008, which is published in Moscow in Russian and English. Sergei Tchoban is a draftsman and collector of architectural drawings. With the aim of stimulating public interest in the art of architectural drawing, he founded the Tchoban Foundation in 2009, which runs the Museum of Architectural Drawing in Berlin, which opened in 2013. Since 2018 member of the design advisory board of the city of Linz , Austria .

Tchoban has curated the Russian pavilion at the Venice International Architecture Biennale twice : in 2010 he realized the “Factory Russia” project as part of the exhibition (together with Sergei Kuznetsov, Pavel Khoroshilov and Grigory Revzin), in 2012 he designed together with the commissioner of the Russian pavilion Grigory Revzin and co-curators Sergei Kuznetsov and Valeria Kashirina launched the “i-city / i-land” project, which received an Honorable Mention from the jury. From 2009 to 2011 he was a member and chairman of the design advisory board of the city of Linz (Austria). Since 2011 he has been a member of the design advisory board of the Skolkowo Innovation Center and since 2013 a member of the design advisory board of the Moscow City Committee for Architecture and Urban Development. Jury member for the architecture prize “Challenge of the Time” 2014 of the Iakov Chernikhov International Foundation for young architects.
