Ober-Wegfurth is a district of Schlitz in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .

geography

The place is northeast of Schlitz an der Fulda . The state road 3140 runs through the village. It connects the Ober-Wegfurth with Rimbach and Unter-Wegfurth .

history

The place was created at a ford through the Fulda. The oldest surviving written mention of the village can be found in a document from 852.

Ober-Wegfurth belonged to the Schlitz rule . Here, the Schlitzer ordinances from the 18th century, together with parts of the Fulda law, were considered particular law . The Common Law applied only to the extent these special regulations did not contain provisions for a fact. This special right retained its validity during the affiliation to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the 19th century. In judicial practice, however, the ordinances were only rarely applied. The particular law was replaced on January 1, 1900 by the civil code that was uniformly valid throughout the German Empire .

On December 31, 1971, Ober-Wegfurth was incorporated into the town of Schlitz as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

Evangelical Church in Ober-Wegfurth

The former pilgrimage church , a former fortified church , stands above Ober-Wegfurth on a hill. It is of Romanesque origin, but was completely rebuilt in 1701. In 1880 the Ober-Wegfurth parish bought the organ made in 1838 by the organ building workshop Oestreich from Oberbimbach for the Langenschwärzer Church from the Protestant church in Langenschwarz, which was demolished in 1879 . It was completely renovated in 1964/65 and 1990.
