history
The settlement was created through salt extraction in the Ilm Valley. The first salt works was built in 1863. The Neusulza saltworks belonged as an exclave to the Wettin office of Camburg , which was under the sovereignty of various Ernestine duchies due to several divisions during its existence . In 1826, the place came as part of the Camburg exclave from the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen .
In 1923, the municipalities of Stadtsulza, Dorfsulza, Bergsulza and Oberneusulza merged to form a town of Bad Sulza. The neighboring town of Untereusulza initially remained independent, but in 1949 it joined the community of Großheringen .
