history

Origin of name

According to local tradition, the name Reisdorf comes from a family of brushwood binders who tied brooms in the "Rollse" (small, elongated grove between Reisdorf and Auerstedt, forms the natural border between the two villages). In the course of time, Reisigdorf became Reisdorf.

Local history

Reisdorf is mentioned for the first time in a document as Ruoduckestorph between 881 and 889 in a tithe list of the Hersfeld Abbey . It belonged to Duke Otto the Illustrious of Saxony. In 1074 Rudichisdorf came to Eckartsburg. In the 14th century the village was divided into two parts, with the lower village coming to the Pforta monastery , but the upper village to the Wettins , under the administration of the Vogtei Gebstedt . The Bailiwick of Gebstedt was later under the administration of the Ernestine Office Roßla , which came to Saxe-Weimar when the line Saxe-Altenburg died out in 1672 and belonged to Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach since 1741 .

A directory from 1556 names 55 residents. During the Thirty Years' War the community was badly damaged and 77 inhabitants lost their lives due to the plague , so that in 1642 there were only 42 people left. 14 houses were destroyed.

In the course of the double battle of Jena and Auerstedt (the latter is only a few kilometers from Reisdorf) in 1806, Reisdorf was not the focus of the fighting, but there was numerous devastation in the immediate vicinity. In the church book from this time, which is kept in the community, you can still find the records of these events made by the pastor shortly after the end of the battle.

During the administrative reform of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, Reisdorf came to the administrative district of Weimar II and legally to the Apolda Justice Office in 1850 . The place has belonged to Thuringia since 1920. Reisdorf had 27 casualties in the First World War and 30 in the Second World War.

On December 31, 2012 Reisdorf was incorporated into the city of Bad Sulza together with other communities.
