geography
Oberstinkenbrunn is located in northern Lower Austria at an altitude of approx. 244 meters. A spring or a well with sulphurous water was probably responsible for the naming.

history
A. Kraker made late Paleolithic-Early Mesolithic finds (blades, scrapers, scratches, burins, drills, cores and cuts) in Oberstinkenbrunn in 1979 known for the first time through a small article in the magazine “ Our Home ”. The majority of the finds (77.3%) consists of chert. Based on the typochronological evaluation, the surface finds of Oberstinkenbrunn are dated from the Late Paleolithic to the Neolithic. By considering the striking technique, a further restriction to the late Paleolithic and early Mesolithic can be dared.
The area was already settled in Roman times (2nd century AD), the first written mention of the place can be found in a Mailberg document from 1291. Over time, the original Linsenangerdorf developed into a multi-street village . Oberstinkenbrunn belonged to the Gaming Charterhouse from 1338 to 1782 . In 1346 the monastery was also given high jurisdiction, which is why Oberstinkenbrunn was spun off from the Eggenburg regional court and from then on formed its own regional court district. In 1710 Oberstinkenbrunn was elevated to market status, but in the 20th century it was incorporated into Wullersdorf .
In 1935 the innkeeper Katharina Hicker fell victim to a robbery in Oberstinkenbrunn. The two perpetrators were arrested soon afterwards, sentenced to death and executed in the Vienna Regional Court for Criminal Matters on the choke barge.
