Oberwellenborn is a district of Unterwellenborn in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district in Thuringia .

geography

Oberwellenborn is located 500 meters north of Unterwellenborn in the upper bottom of the dry Orla , a wide valley through which the Weirabach flows and with a gently sloping terrain. The place name is derived from Born = over the fountain. The wooded hills around the Kulmberg connect to the north of the district. The Orlatal area begins to the east around Pößneck and to the west is the Saale floodplain around Saalfeld and Rudolstadt . To the south is the transition into the southeast Thuringian slate mountains to Unterwellenborn. Near the town go the compounds of the railway Saalfeld - Gera - Leipzig and the national road 281 to Bundesautobahn 9 with connection in Triptis and on.

history

The first documentary mention was for Oberwellenborn in 1349.

The former farming village still has three-sided courtyards with the gate to the street. In 1946 a settlement was built for resettlers from eastern Germany and workers from the Maxhütte .

The church , built in the 12th century, stands on the foundations of a chapel. With hiking trails and a nature reserve, the place offers good conditions for those seeking relaxation in addition to its location.

On April 9, 1994, Oberwellenborn was incorporated into Unterwellenborn with its districts of Langenschade and Dorfkulm .
