The Observatorio Astronómico de La Sagra ( OLS , IAU code L98 ) is a Spanish observatory located near the city of Puebla de Don Fadrique in the province of Granada .
The observatory is located 1,530 m above sea level on the Sierra de La Sagra . The observatory is privately owned and operated in cooperation with a neighboring hotel with the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA; German: Institute for Astrophysics in Andalusia ) and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC; German: Supreme Council for Scientific Research ). It was inaugurated on June 14, 2004. The advantages of the location are low light pollution , good weather conditions and low humidity .
The four robotic telescopes are remotely controlled from the Observatorio Astronómico de Mallorca (OAM). Remote control via the Internet is also possible for others with access rights. The observatory is used in particular to search for small bodies in the solar system , such as asteroids and comets . This is done as part of the La Sagra Sky Survey (LSSS). The first asteroid to be discovered was on September 19, 2006 (185101) 2006 SX 19 . The first comet was discovered in 2009 with 279P / La Sagra .
